Information for Parents and Students

Our Motivation:

“Students do not need to be labeled or measured any more than they are. They don't need more Federal funds, grants, and gimmicks. What they need from us is common sense, dedication, and bright, energetic teachers who believe that all children are achievers and who take personally the failure of any one child.” - Marva Collins

Achieve Academy is a student-centered learning environment currently serving students from ages three to high school. Students have individualized learning plans incorporating Georgia Standards that provide an excellent academic foundation. Grades from kindergarten to twelfth are accredited and are accepted for reentry to public school or private schools, locally and nationally. Students are taught social skills, manners, organization, communication, public speaking, and techniques to resolve disputes. Since 2017, our students have become achievers, and parents attest to their improvements academically and socially.

Our Unique Approach:

Achieve Academy believes that all students are achievers given the right environment, the support of loving teachers, committed families, and the opportunity to succeed every day.

Uniform:

Achievers were uniforms on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and appropriate free choice on Thursdays and Fridays. Students who attend Achieve Academy should look like achievers. Their clothes must be clean, pressed, and neat. Jeans, leggings, khakis, cargo pants, and regular pants are allowed. Skirts and dresses should cover the thigh even when seated. Shorts should also cover the thigh. T-shirts, blouses, shirts, polo shirts, etc., are all allowed. Absolutely no rips or tears in clothing. Please do not send your student to school in expensive athletic shoes, their clothing should be practical for recess as well as the classroom. If you have doubts about whether certain clothing is acceptable for school, please ask. Personalized “Achiever!” shirts and hoodies are available to purchase from our Shop

Achieve merchandise is the dress code for field trips.

Class Rules:

All students are expected to comply with the following rules otherwise disciplinary action will be taken by the method, manner, and severity with which the rule has been broken.

Achievers will:

1. be respectful of others, including teachers and classmates.

2. work hard and finish tasks.

3. follow instructions without complaint.

4. help and encourage others.

5. be careful with school property.

6. be neat, clean, and organized.

Discipline:

Achievers receive fairness and justice along with an expectation that they will be their best selves at school. We all have bad days, so patience and mercy comes first. Students who have difficulty with following the rules above will be addressed with the following procedure. The first tier of discipline is to remind the student of the rule, the second tier is to talk again with the student and move them to a quiet area, and the third tier is to contact the student’s parents/guardian. If the student’s behavior continues to be an issue and is a distraction in the classroom, the student will be dismissed from school for the day. The parents/guardian and student will then be required to meet with the teachers/Director before the student may re-enter class.

Attendance:

Students are required to attend at least 90% of the days class is offered. Failure to meet attendance requirements may result in loss of credits.

The double doors directly to the left, when you enter the parking lot, is the pick up and drop off point for school. Please do not release your child into school until you are sure that a teacher sees and has greeted them. Students will only be released to parents/guardian or those individuals added to the pick-up list.

Lunch:

Students are required to bring one item for snack and a lunch each day with water as the only beverage. A microwave and refrigerator are provided to allow for storing of food. Students should bring at least two bottles of water a day during the spring and summer. Food that requires a lot of preparation is not suitable for school. Food should be stored in plastic containers with lids to avoid spills. Please provide forks, spoons, knives, and napkins as needed.

Recess:

Students will spend recess outside as long as the weather permits. Students who cannot take part in outside recess will need a note from their parent/guardian or an excuse from their medical doctor.

Devices:

Students may bring phones, tablets, and laptops to school each day. Please ensure that a Google Safe Search has been placed on the device to avoid adult content while researching for school projects online. Students will be permitted to access the school Wi-fi and are expected to use their devices only with their teacher’s permission. Devices are used mainly for research purposes and to play appropriate games during an inside lunch break. Students are not permitted to text or make calls without their teacher’s permission. Device privileges will be revoked if abused.

Extracurricular Activities

CPR:

Students will take part in CPR and First Aid Training with CPR Training 101 during the fall of each school year. Students will receive CPR certification through the American Heart Association for one year.

4-H Club, Drama, Art, Spanish, Music Lessons:

Summer:

Achieve Academy is a year-round school program with students attending class on at least two days per week during six weeks of the summer break. Students requiring extra tutoring over the summer break are entitled to some complimentary tutoring lessons as arranged with the Director. Students that will not attend summer school should opt for the ten-month payment plan.

Field Trips:

Students will take part in numerous pre-arranged field trips during the school year. Participation is open to those students who comply with the terms, rules, and policies in the School Handbook. The teacher/Director will ask for permission from the parents/guardian before taking the students on a field trip. Students will wear Achieve Academy school uniform on field trips.

Emergency Management and Safety Plan

Building security:

The property at 1602 Elberta Rd is alarmed and secured out of hours. The property is well-lit and maintained. A door chime notifies that someone is entering or exiting the building. Doors to the building remained locked during the school day.

Visitors to the classroom must knock and check-in with a staff member before entering.

Weather Emergencies:

Staff members are linked to the CODERED warning system to receive critical communications such as evacuation notices and storm warnings.

To sign up for this service, please visit:

If the building has to be evacuated, students will leave through the back door, if possible, and congregate in the rear parking lot. In an event that requires sheltering in place, students and staff members will move to the middle classroom and remain there until the all-clear is given. In the event of a lock-down, students will follow predetermined procedures, such as moving to designated safe areas, remaining quiet, and staying out of sight. Staff members lead students through drills to ensure familiarity with the protocol. Communication systems and emergency contacts will be utilized to keep everyone informed. Designated reunification areas will be established where parents can safely pick up their children after proper identification and verification.

Continuity of Operations:

Following any event that may cause disruption in operations, a detailed plan will be communicated to parents. Plans may include remote learning strategies or use of backup facilities for essential services.

Handling Bodily Fluids & Storage of Hazardous Materials

In the event of an emergency, teachers use personal protective equipment including gloves, protective eyewear, and a mask, they follow proper hygiene practices, and use designated biohazard disposal containers to dispose of soiled clothing and/or handle bodily fluids. Hazardous materials are stored in a secure area with appropriate labeling, away from students. Teachers are trained on safety protocols and have access to necessary supplies for handling such situations.

Medical Issues:

If your child needs to self-administer medication or if they require medication during the school day, please fill out this medical form.
