Agri-STEM

Brought to us through the generosity of local community groups, educators, and business professionals, students at Achieve Academy prepare for adult life by immersion in collaborative learning opportunities. Our Agri-STEM program, in partnership with GrowMacon, a community gardening organization, empowered and excited students to plan, plant, and harvest their first garden and crops.

Traditionally, schools have not prepared students to take on the plethora of roles in the agricultural industry which provides over 400,000 jobs in Georgia and contributes over $70 billion to the state’s economy each year.

This academic year our agricultural program goes a step further by partnering with Pink STEM and Dr. Tamika Ray-Head, 4H, Fort Valley State University, Community Connections on the Parkway, farmer, nutritionist, and professor of public health, Dr. Hamidah Sharif, Master Gardener Erica Hill, and GrowMacon.

Achieve Academy students will learn how to compost, plant seasonal crops, build raised bed gardens, and operate a farmer’s market. In addition to frequenting the gardens and farms operated by our community partners, Achievers will also take a trip in September to FVSU to experience their agricultural development and observe the processes they have established for farming.
