Breakfast Done Right!

A great rule of thumb for a healthy diet that focuses on wellness rather than dropping pounds fast, is to start the day as you mean to go on.  In other words, consider your morning routine as the pattern for the rest of your day.  If you wake up late, overtired, stressed, grabbing a donut and a sugar-loaded drink and rushing to work, the rest of the day will follow that pattern. Been there, done that!  This means that our mornings need some planning to set a pattern or routine that will give us a whole day of health, wellness, and an overall feeling of control over mind and body.

Aside from prepping an outfit, getting enough hours of sleep, packing a lunch (essential for managing what you eat) and waking up to some form of exercise, a healthy breakfast option is overnight oatmeal.  This delicious breakfast packs protein, fiber, and great taste in a jar that is prepared the day (or week) before.

I make two jars of overnight oatmeal at the weekend and it lasts until the next weekend.  Using an empty glass jar of almond butter, I combine my favorites with oatmeal and almond milk, shake, and store in the refrigerator for at least one night.  The next morning you are treated to a filling breakfast with a pudding-like consistency.

Overnight oatmeal is a super healthy was to start your day off right! This is the ultimate no-guilt breakfast recipe.

Ingredients

  • Old-fashioned oatmeal - 1 1/2 cups

  • Almond (or other) milk - to fill jar

  • Honey - 1 tbsp

  • Liquid stevia - 1 dropper full

  • Ground ginger - to taste

  • Cinnamon - to taste

  • Nutmeg - to taste

  • Chocolate powder - 1 tbsp

  • Ripe banana - 1

Instructions

  1. You can really be free with measurements and ingredients. Make sure to make a few different kinds to see what you like. I have found my perfect recipe with the ingredients above because it makes a chocolaty, gooey, deliciously sweet breakfast treat that suits my taste buds. You can choose to add other ingredients such as nuts, chai seeds, nut butter, sunflower seeds, or to leave some out. Be creative!

  2. Mix all of the ingredients in a jar and shake until combined.

  3. Refridgerate overnight.

  4. Enjoy in the morning with yoghurt and fruit or by itself.

  5. Happy mornings to you!
